Creating a Smart Home has never been easier!

Say goodbye to wireless network configuration hassles. Threshold’s breakthrough BlueSpot technology uses low-cost near-field communications and networking to provide a secure way for devices to configure themselves automatically. BlueSpot frees consumers from the burden of configuration complexity that has inhibited market growth and led to high levels of customer frustration and high product return rates.

Using BlueSpot anyone can easily install and configure a wireless device by simply holding the BlueSpot of one device near the BlueSpot of another device on the network. BlueSpot then automatically and wirelessly programs the new device with network addresses, security keys, passwords, device names, and other necessary configuration information. It's that easy!

Threshold’s BlueSpot technology enables a new expansion of wireless technology by making existing devices radically easier to install and use, and enabling wireless capabilities to be incorporated into almost any device at an extremely low cost. Creating a "smart home" is now easy and affordable.

For example, wireless-controlled electrical outlets can know when to turn off devices to save money and help the environment, or consumers can add a new wireless camera, phone, or media player to the network by just holding it over another device. The possibilities are endless!

Press Democrat Article: The Connected Home

In the 1960s, a cartoon family called The Jetsons brought us the original "smart" home, complete with robot servants, picture phones and other futuristic gadgets. Forty years later, a Petaluma tech startup is launching a wireless automation system aimed at making the smart home a reality.

"The home of the future is going to be very connected," said James Martin, chief executive officer of Threshold Corp.

His 4-year-old company hopes to begin selling its system in August. It's built around a digital home controller that lets consumers manage all their electronics -- TVs, media players, clocks, lights, computers, security systems and temperature controls -- from a single point. The technology also shows homeowners how much energy they're using.
